(Check back here often for tourney
updates as they happen.)
Update July 4, 2016: Times and brackets are available, but we still hope you will join us Tuesday night for tournament check-in and appetizers at the club. We will take pictures of all the First-Time NMRA players, and try to answer all of your questions about the week's event. See you Tuesday! Don't forget to text or call our transportation concierge Joe Williams at 402.309.4260 if you need a ride. He will post a shuttle schedule in the hotel lobby. Parking at the club is limited and our group MUST take the shuttle or park far away. Call with questions.
Update June 23, 2016: A few people still wanted to sign up so I opened registration back up for today (Thursday). Call if you have any trouble getting in. I am still working on doubles pairings and roommates, etc. I understand there are still $114 rooms at the Shilo Inn. It's getting close!
Update June 15, 2016: After receiving an email about the Shilo Inn room availability from one of our players, I called them to ensure we have more rooms at the $114 rate. If you booked at a different hotel or a different rate, feel free to call the front desk and mention that Raymond, the hotel GM, extended the NMRA rate for our group! Cindy
Update June 12, 2016: The NMRA newsletter is out. Hope you read it.
Update April 18, 2016: One player told me that he called to get his room at the Shilo Inn and was told the rooms were sold. I checked on it and that is NOT THE CASE at all. There are still plenty of rooms available, so please contact them and stay at the Host Hotel! If you need help, Ray is our contact for rooms.
Hello 45+ Racquetball Players!!
the 2016 NMRA International Championships,
July 6 through 9, 2016. It has been about five years since we have
been to Portland so it’s about time we went back! It is going to be a great time in Beaverton! We hope you will come out for the player
information meetings at check-in night at the Sunset Athletic Club Sports Club
in Beaverton at 5:15 pm and 7:00 pm on Tuesday, July 5, to get all of your
questions answered. We have identical
meetings for the early and late arrivers.
If we need
more courts, we have the Lloyd Athletic Club in Portland reserved.
For all the
information you need on this tournament, you can click here to go to the www.nmra.info site and see the Information Sheet for the tournament. We recommend you download it and bring it
with you as you plan your trip and make your reservations.
Maximum players for this event will
be 165, then an
online waiting list will be
used. As always, the “Share a Room” and “Request
a Doubles Partner” lists will be available too.
You may sign
up for a maximum of two divisions. All divisions are round-robins and are self-refereed. Honesty, integrity and fair play are the
themes of this tournament. You will get
plenty of racquetball and make a lot of new friends.
to men’s and women’s singles, same-gender doubles and mixed doubles, two special divisions
will be offered. The first is Rotating-partner (jackpot) doubles for the
75+ crowd, up to a maximum of 16 participants. This was very well received in St. Louis, and
we expect it to fill up quickly. It isn’t
really available via the R2sports.com online registration, so please just use
the regular doubles to represent your choice of jackpot doubles and note your
preference in the comments. Call Cindy
if you have any questions.
special offering will be an Ex-Pro/Amateur
doubles division where the amateur invites the ex-pro to play and pays
his/her entry fee. For this
ex-pro/amateur division, there will be an upper age group and a lower one. That upper age will most likely start at 55,
but it depends on who, if anyone, signs up for the division. We have not yet tried this but hope to make
it happen in Portland.
to come out to the Portland area early for music festivals and other special Upper
Northwest events! There is so much to
do, as you will see on the Things To Do list.
For this four-day
tourney, the first event is $165; second is $30. You don’t have to play a second division
(which must be doubles), but we hope you will, as it makes the doubles
stronger. You may request a doubles
partner and/or a roommate and we will do our best. Enter
online by June 20, or send in a US
mail entry by June 17. You’ll get
food and fun all week, in addition to our famous banquet slideshow and a great
will be allowed after June 20, when shirts will have been ordered and matches
note about the hotel (the Shilo Inn
Suites Portland): PLEASE RESERVE
YOUR ROOM EARLY. We have only reserved 30
queen-bed rooms, but we can get more if those fill up before our deadline. The hotel is about five miles from the Sunset
Club, nine miles from the Lloyd Club, and the Friday night banquet will be at
the hotel ballroom. You will find it
easiest to stay at the host hotel, as there will be an hourly shuttle to both
clubs, provided free.
The primary club
will be the famous Sunset Athletic Club
in Beaverton (West Portland). We are
allowed to use all nine of their panel-walled courts. Thanks to Paul Maduell and
his crew for allowing us to use the facility.
Our second club, if needed, will be the Lloyd Athletic Club in Portland, providing an additional seven
courts. Tera Costanza is our contact
there, and we also thank her for hosting our group.
much more information available in the Info Sheet. In addition, there are many things to do in Portland,
Washington and Northern California so I had Paul Maduell write up a list of
just a few. If you prefer to enter via
US Mail, there is a downloadable entry here too. http://www.nationalmastersracquetball.org/articles.asp?articleID=21975
We are still working on the Info Sheet and Things To Do but will be done very shortly.
email us if you have any questions. I
