Doubles Partners / Roommates:
Use the online list feature in the Participants section or contact Cindy Tilbury for your requests. Cindy may call you if you only have one division, too, to see if you would like a doubles partner.
Special 40+ Ex-Pro / Amateur Doubles Division:
Regular age-group players may pay the entry fee of and play with 40+ ex-pro players. Contact Cindy for more details.
Special Jackpot / Rotating Partner Doubles:
Intended for 75+ players but potentially open to younger players too. On Sunday pm, we will provide a division where players switch partners every round. One winner will be declared. It will not show, so pick Mixed Doubles 75+ and say "Jackpot."
Special for B/C Ladies:
If you are a lady and feel you are not an Open or A player, you may choose the B/C age group of 45 or 55. Contact Cindy if you have questions. Most ladies just go for the regular round-robin.
Nearest and Alternate Airports:
SAT is closest to San Antonio and the hotel, but AUS (Austin) is another option.
Airport Taxi / Shuttle / Uber:
The host hotel provides an airport shuttle. It is very close to the airport. Uber and taxis are also good options if you do not rent a car.
Shuttle From Hotel to Club:
The NMRA will provide a shuttle between the host hotel and the club. The plan is to have hourly trips.
Tournament Check-In at the Host Club:
Join us Tuesday, March 5 from 5 to 8 pm at the YMCA to pick up your tournament souvenir, draw sheets, balls, etc. Complimentary reception with food and beverages will be held. Early and later player meetings will be held to review procedures.
Play Begins / Ends:
Play starts at 8 am every day.
Play ends by 10 pm Wednesday and Thursday and 5 pm on Friday and Saturday.
Every division plays every day.
Make your travel plans accordingly--travel home on Sunday.
Practice Court Time:
Courts for practice are available free of charge on Tuesday, March 5. Some courts may be available during tournament check-in, but members will mostly be using them.
Tournament Scoring - USAR Rules Used:
All matches are round robins, self-refereed. Match format is 2 games to 15 points, with ties possible; no tiebreaker will be played. Larger "pool play" divisions have Saturday playoff matches. Playoff format is 2 games to 15 with a tiebreaker to 11.
Tournament Bonus Point Scoring:
Bonus points are awarded for winnings games (2 per game) and the match (4). Ties will split the extra 4 match points. R2Sports calculates the totals and averages. Ask for details on forfeits.
Current USAR membership is required. In addition, NMRA membership is required for all EXCEPT players who are playing in their FIRST NMRA event. NMRA membership is $45 for 3 years. We hope first-timers will join.
NMRA medals will be awarded to First through Fourth place winners for each age division. Combined divisions will be awarded medals based on separate age divisions. You must complete all matches in a division to be awarded the medal.
Fruit and drinks will be available at the host club. Hot breakfast is available for guests of the host hotel.
Lunch is served at the host club, usually from 11:30 to 2:00. You may need to present your tournament identification.
Evening Hospitality on Wednesday and Thursday:
This is not a substitute for dinner, but if matches go late, hospitality will be served at the host club.
Banquet on Friday Night at the Host Hotel:
The banquet will be in the ballroom area of the host hotel. Guests are welcome for $50, or $70 to eat all week. Cash bar at 6 pm and dinner about 7 pm. Don't miss it!
Massage therapists can stretch and massage sore bodies. The plan is to have them charge $1 per minute. Sign-up sheets will be provided to reserve your spot. Racquet stringers will also be available.
